Re'mon Nelson leads USC Aiken to victory

AIKEN — Re’mon Nelson had the hot hand as USC Aiken stopped Montevallo 82-77 on Saturday night to stay tied for first place in the Peach Belt Conference’s East Division.

Nelson, who missed two shots all night, had 23 points and 11 assists for the Pacers, who are 4-1 in the division, along with Augusta State.

Ex-Cross Creek standout Santoine Butler added 21 points for the Pacers, who are 8-4 overall.

Troran Brown led all scorers with 28 points for Montevallo (8-5, 4-2).


In Aiken, senior guard Daniela Tarailo did all her damage from behind the 3-point line, leading unbeaten USC Aiken to its 12th victory of the season.

Tarailo hit 6 of 9 shots from the field, all from 3-point range. She added a free throw to lead the Lady Pacers with 19 points.

Kayla Harris added 14 points and seven rebounds for USC Aiken, which is 5-0 in Peach Belt Conference play.

Taylor Beverly had 27 points for Montevallo (9-6, 4-2).


In Jackson, Tenn., Sean Morgan hit a basket with three seconds remaining to lift Paine College to victory.

Lane had tied the game with 29 seconds left before Morgan, who had nine points, hit the winner.

Kedric Taylor led Paine (6-6, 3-2 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) with 17 points.


In Jackson, Tenn., Paine College ran its Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Con­ference record to 4-1 with a victory over Lane.

The Lady Lions (6-8) were led by former Butler star Ashley Watts (18 points), Kiara Farley (15) and Ariel Brown (14).

Marissa Stewart had 15 points for Lane (3-7, 1-4).
