For Grovetown’s Kendyl Conner, there was really only one choice to be made when it came to choosing a college.
On Tuesday, she made that choice official when she signed to play softball at Georgia Regents.
“My dad played baseball at GRU when it was Augusta College,” Conner said. “I’ve always loved the campus and stuff. It was relaxing to know I only had to apply to one college and I only had to get accepted into one place, so it was good.”
Conner, a catcher, was a all-region second-team selection after batting .306 with 15 RBI and 18 walks.
Calling her a team leader, Grovetown coach Jeff Davis said Conner will be missed.
“I’m really happy for her, and I know she’ll enjoy it there and be a good asset to the team. She’s a team player,” Davis said.
Alexis Schlein, of Evans, and Lindsey Stokes, of Harlem, signed with Georgia Regents earlier in the year, and Conner verbally committed to the Lady Jaguars about the same time. The wait for another legal signing period wasn’t anything that made her anxious, rather the opposite.
“It’s been kind of relaxing to know that it is a decision I’ve made and it’s what I’m going to do for the next few years,” she said.
Conner said she has a lot of friends at Georgia Regents and it was a good decision for her. Going with friends Schlein and Stokes is a plus.
“I’m excited. We’ve all been really close for a long time,” Conner said. “I think we’re going to live together next year on campus. We’re all excited to do this thing together.”
