Georgia Regents pitcher Haley Birkle no-hits Mount Olive in softball

Haley Birkle pitched a six-inning no-hitter as Georgia Regents beat Mount Olive 9-1 Wednesday to complete a sweep of a softball doubleheader.

The Jaguars (11-14) won the opener 5-0.

Birkle (5-6) walked the leadoff batter and three ground balls to the right side scored Mount Olive’s run. She struck out four.

In the opener, Paige Deschaine (5-7) had a no-hitter for the majority of game before allowing a single, Mount Olive’s only hit, to lead off the seventh. She finished with nine strikeouts.

Mallory Ferguson had two hits and scored twice and Brooke Stephens hit a two-run homer and scored two runs for Georgia Regents in the opener. Erin Rozier drove in two runs and scored twice in the second game. Stephens and Hannah Vaughn also scored two runs each, while Brianna Dickens had two hits.
