ASU baseball coach Chris Cooper reassigned

Augusta State baseball coach Chris Cooper has been reassigned, athletic director Clint Bryant announced Wednesday afternoon.

Cooper took over the program in July 2009 and guided the Jaguars to a 64-126 overall record from 2010-2013. Augusta State lost 21 games in a row to end the season this year.

Cooper will assume the newly-created position of head strength and conditioning coach for the entire Jaguar Athletics program, according to a news release. Cooper previously held a similar role from 2006-07 while working toward his master’s degree.

Bryant said a national search for Cooper’s successor would begin immediately.

“I want to thank Coach Cooper for his efforts and dedication to our baseball program, not just over the last four seasons in leading our program, but for all his contributions,” Bryant said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision and one I didn’t take lightly. This change isn’t about Coach Cooper or about wins and losses – we have to change the culture of the Augusta State baseball program and it starts right here and right now.”

If you can coax Terry Holder

If you can coax Terry Holder out of retirement, you would be amiss not to hire him. His long time assistant, Russell Lee would be another good candidate. He is charismatic with lots of contacts over the area.

Clint Bryant replacement in the grooming.

Clint Bryant was a horrible BB coach and should have been flat out fired. But he was awarded the AD slot instead. Maybe when he retires Cooper can take his place.
