Area to play host to two golf events this week

Golf fans will have several opportunities to watch high-level play this weekend in the Augusta area.

The 14th annual Kandy Waters Memorial Classic runs today through Sunday at Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club. Admission is free to the public.

Brandon Brown, the 2012 NGA Tour Player of the Year, is making his NGA Tour debut this season after missing the first three events because of an injury. Brown will tee off No. 1 at 8:54 a.m. today.

Former Augusta State golfer Wallace Booth tees off No. 1 at 9:12 a.m. Clayton Rask (8:09), Jon Curran (8:18) and Justin Lower (8:27) – all winners on the NGA Tour this season – go off the No. 1 tee early.

At Forest Hills Golf Club, the Augusta State women play host to the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, Friday through Sunday. The 54-hole event features 18 teams, including 2012 champion Texas-San Antonio.

Augusta State, Purdue and Vanderbilt go off the No. 1 tee starting at 10:20 a.m. Friday. The Lady Jaguars have finished as runner-up in its home event each of the past five years.

Augusta State junior Casey Kennedy is coming off her third collegiate win Sunday at the Purdue Mount Vintage Invitational. Kennedy posted a 3-over-par 219 total to win by four shots.
