In Sorrento, Fla., Natalie Wille and her Augusta State teammates struggled in Tuesday’s final round of the 54-hole UCF Challenge at Red Tail Golf Club.
Wille, who was tied for the individual lead after opening rounds of 67-72, closed with 4-over-par 76 to tie for fifth place.
Virginia’s Briana Mao, who shared the 36-hole lead with Wille, closed with 73 to win the individual title.
In their first event of the spring season, the Lady Jaguars, tied for fourth place after 36 holes, had a final-round 15-over 303 and finished in a tie for ninth place. North Carolina won the team title by 17 shots over Tulane.
On Tuesday, the Lady Jags counted 73 by Marit Bjerke, 74 by Casey Kennedy, Wille’s 76 and Julia Stalbro’s 80. Christine Duschek-Hansen had the non-counting score with 81.
After Wille’s fifth-place finish at 1-under 215, Kennedy tied for 12th place (218), Duschek-Hansen tied for 54th place (228), Bjerke tied for 64th (230) and Stalbro was 96th (246).
Augusta returns to action Feb. 18 at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla.
