For the first time in nine seasons, the Augusta State women’s basketball team is nationally ranked.

The 14-2 Lady Jaguars are 24th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II top-25 Coaches’ Poll.
USC Aiken (15-2) is ranked sixth for the second consecutive poll.

Augusta State’s 2003-04 team, which posted a school-record 24 victories en route to an NCAA Elite Eight appearance, finished that season ranked No. 10 in the country in the final poll on April 21, 2004.

“It’s another big step in the right direction for this program,” said third-year Augusta State coach Nate Teymer.

“The recognition is terrific and it’s mighty nice to be on the national scene so to speak, but we’ve still got our best basketball ahead of us,”  he said. “We’re interested in the best finish in the school history and that’s what our ladies are focused on. We know we can play better and I’m excited to see us put 40 solid minutes together and see where that will take us.”
