ASU women's coach Nate Teymer in line for coach of year honor

Nate Teymer. The third-year Augusta State women’s coach is making a bid for Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year after leading his Lady Jaguars to a school-best 13-2 start. Augusta State was picked to finish ninth of 14 teams in the preseason coaches poll.


Georgia College women. The Lady Bobcats looked like they were going to make a run at a Peach Belt title. Then they dropped their past four games and will now have to fight to make the conference tournament.


Fort Valley State coach Lonnie Bartley won his 624th career game last Saturday to become the winningest coach in HBCU women’s basketball history.


Augusta State plays host to USC Aiken next Saturday at 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 (men) at Christenberry Fieldhouse.


Augusta State (10-5, 5-3): Senior center Travis Keels posted 19 points, 16 boards and eight blocks the past two games. His play down the stretch will be key to the Jaguars’ success.

Paine (6-10, 4-4): Congrats to senior guard Mario Jordan for scoring 1,053 career points. Don’t ask where that ranks on the school’s all-time scoring list.

USC Aiken (11-5, 7-2): Guard Re’mon Nelson scored 18 points in Thursday night’s win over Georgia College and now has 1,013 for his career.


Augusta State (13-2, 6-2): One more victory locks up the Lady Jaguars’ first winning season in five years.

Paine (8-10, 6-2): Guard Ashley Watts does a lot of good things, but she has to improve her shot selection and field-goal percentage (34 percent).

USC Aiken (14-2, 7-2): Guard Daniela Tarailo averaging 19 points the past three games.
