Since her sophomore year, she has been looking at schools and taking steps toward playing college softball. Augusta State University was always at the top of her list.
On Wednesday, the Evans senior made her dream come true when she signed her letter of intent to play for the Jaguars.
She was nervous before and relaxed after.
“It’s a big relief,” McChesney said. “Ever since I started the process, I’ve always put Augusta State at the top of my list. It’s where I really wanted to go.”
The Jaguars will be getting a player who will have the ability to go in and challenge for a starting spot at catcher, where she has excelled for the Lady Knights.
She was All-Columbia County in 2011 and All-Region in 2011 and 2012. In her senior season, McChesney hit.469 with 33 RBI, playing in all 31 games.
Starting right away is one of her goals.
“It will be me and one other person battling for the position,” said McChesney, who plans to study early childhood education.
No matter what, she is happy to be close to home and near her family and friends. Signing with her school of choice made her mother happy as well.
“Oh, it’s awesome,” Beth Williamson said. “This is something she’s wanted. As a mother you’re just happy to see your young’uns happy.”
