A season-high nine 3-pointers gave Augusta State (10-10, 5-7 PBC) a 59-51 win over UNC Pembroke (8-10, 5-5) tonight.
“It was one of those things where they kind of sagged off on us a little bit,” coach Nate Teymer said. “With Marina (Fox) being a presence down low, they really sagged off, and it opened up our shooters, and it helped us win tonight.”
Amber Peterson led the Lady Jaguars with 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting, all from behind the 3-point line. Two of Peterson’s 3-pointers came in big spots during the first half, giving Augusta State its biggest lead to that point at five at the 1:30 mark. She also hit a 3 with seconds remaining in the first half that preserved a two-point lead going into the locker room.
Peterson also drained a 3-pointer with one minute remaining in the game to give the Lady Jaguars a four-point lead.
“They were big going down the stretch,” Teymer said. “Several of them were off plays we called and the girls executed.”
Brittany White recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 assists. She went 5 of 8 shooting, including 2 of 5 from 3-point range.
