Clayton State women have what it takes to repeat as national champs

WHO'S HOT

Clayton State women. The defending national champions don’t look like they’re ready to surrender their title anytime soon. The Laker women (15-1) have won 12 in a row and are undefeated in Peach Belt Conference play.

WHO'S NOT

Georgia Southwestern men. The Hurricanes, winless in league play, were picked to win the Peach Belt in a preseason coaches poll. Right now, they won’t even make the tournament.

MEA CULPA

In the Jan. 8 edition of The Augusta Chronicle, the reporter incorrectly identified the person Harold Doby got in a confrontation with in the Augusta State basketball story. The player was North Georgia’s Scott Windom. The Chronicle regrets the error.

THE SLAP

After video review, Doby’s “slap” was more of a push to the face. Nonetheless, you’re not allowed to respond that way. When basketball players hear smack talk, they need to handle themselves the way comedians handle hecklers. One suggestion: “Yo Mama” retorts.
