Laci Schreiber felt like she needed to become more of a force inside the paint Saturday.
The Augusta State junior center scored a career-high 20 points to help lead the Lady Jaguars to a 72-55 win over Erskine at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
With three players out for Augusta State, Schreiber played 39 minutes and more than doubled her season scoring average (8.6). She dominated inside, shooting 10 of 19 from the field with 14 rebounds.
“It was kind of what the defense was giving me,” Schreiber said. “And I thought I need to step up today.”
After a 1-3 start to the season, the Lady Jaguars have now won six in a row. Augusta State took advantage of the Flying Fleet (2-6) in the paint. The Lady Jaguars shot 54 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle, 39 to 26.
“I feel like we’re going in a positive direction,” Augusta State coach Nate Teymer said. “We just need to tighten up some things. I think our best basketball is ahead of us.”
Brittany White shot 7 for 11 from the field for 17 points, while Becky Newhouse added 14 points for the Lady Jaguars.
