For the second consecutive year, Augusta State's Ben Madgen was named the Daktronics Division II Southeast Region Player of the Year.
A senior guard, Madgen is the all-time leading scorer in school and Peach Belt Conference history. Last week, he was named Peach Belt Player of the Year. Madgen led the conference in scoring for the second year in a row, averaging 18.4 points a game.
Madgen and teammate Fred Brathwaite, a first-team all-conference selection, were named to the Southeast Region's first team today, joining Mount Olive's Kendrick Easley, Tusculum's Kyle Moore and Mars Hill's Danny Sanders. All five players are eligible for Daktronics All-American honors.
Madgen, Brathwaite and their Augusta State teammates open Division II Tournament play against Brevard at 6 p.m. Saturday at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
