Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says senior Cole Stoudt is the team’s starting quarterback coming out of spring, and injured freshman Deshaun Watson will have the chance to compete for the job this fall.

Swinney said in a text message to The Associated Press on Tuesday that Stoudt was the leading quarterback in what had been a three-way battle to take over for record-setting starter Tajh Boyd, the starter for the past three years.

Swinney dismissed redshirt freshman quarterback Chad Kelly on Monday for conduct detrimental to the team.

Watson injured his collarbone earlier this month.

Forsyth County Chief Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Martin said Lamont Britt pleaded guilty to a charge of simple assault.

Britt had been charged with misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury.

Judge Denise Hartsfield sentenced Britt to 45 days in jail, suspended for one year, probation for a year, and imposed the condition that he complete or be in the process of completing his education. Hartsfield also ordered Britt to cooperate with any continued investigations.

An arrest warrant said Britt hitting Rudy Johnson in the face and head in a restroom on Nov. 15 during the during the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association awards luncheon.

CIAA officials canceled the game after the fight, and later declared Virginia State ineligible for postseason play.

MIAMI: An attorney who assisted the NCAA during its probe of Miami athletics is facing charges from the Florida Bar, which alleges a wide range of ethics violations occurred during that investigation.

Maria Elena Perez could face probation, a public reprimand, suspension or even disbarment.

The complaint, which was released Monday, only asks Florida’s Supreme Court that she be “appropriately sanctioned.”

PACKERS: Matt Flynn, the backup quarterback who helped save Green Bay last season after Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone, will return to the team.

He reached an agreement on a new contract with the Packers on Tuesday, according to ESPN.com.

The deal came on the heels of a scheduled visit to the New York Giants, which was called off Tuesday.

Flynn began his career with Green Bay and served as Rodgers’ backup from 2008 to 2011.

49ERS: Have signed wide receiver Brandon Lloyd to a one-year contract.

The 49ers announced the deal Tuesday.

San Francisco selected Lloyd in the fourth round of the 2003 draft. He was a member of the 49ers from 2003-05.

He caught 105 passes for 1,510 yards and 13 touchdowns with the 49ers.

JETS: Former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson visited New York on Tuesday, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

Johnson was officially released by the Titans on April 7, three days after the team informed him.

The former 2,000-yard rusher met with the team at its facility Tuesday, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the Jets don’t make player visits public.

LIONS: Have been negotiating with Ndamukong Suh in the hopes of signing him to a long-year deal before he potentially becomes a free agent next year.

The talks, according to team president Tom Lewand, have been relatively good.

“They’re more on the civil and productive side of the spectrum,” Lewand told season-ticket holders on Monday night.

The two-time All-Pro defensive tackle is entering the last season of his contract. Lewand insisted it doesn’t matter when a deal gets done with him even though he is scheduled to count more than $20 million against the salary cap this year and a new deal could be restructured to give the team some relief.
