Boise State hires former assistant Bryan Harsin as head coach

Boise State hired former player and offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin to be its next head coach.

Athletic Director Mark Coyle confirmed Wednesday he had lured Harsin back to Boise from Arkansas State, where he served as head coach for just one season.

ALABAMA: Quarterback AJ McCarron says he doesn’t believe coach Nick Saban will leave for Texas if that job comes open.

Saban is reportedly a target by Texas officials to be its next coach if current coach Mack Brown were to step down.

• Alabama kicker Cade Foster received a supportive note from former President George W. Bush.

Foster missed two field goal attempts and had a third blocked in the Crimson Tide’s loss to Auburn on Nov. 30. He posted a photo of the letter on his Twitter and Instagram accounts on Wed­nesday.

AWARDS: Auburn’s Gus Malzahn is the Home Depot Coach of the Year after orchestrating one of the biggest turnarounds in history.

• Southeastern Confer­ence coaches voted Malzahn coach of the year, and picked his star tailback Tre Mason as the top offensive player.

Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley and Missouri defensive end Michael Sam are co-defensive players of the year.

Alabama receiver/return man Christion Jones is special teams player of the year. Mississippi receiver Laquon Treadwell is freshman of the year.

Texas A&M left tackle Jake Matthews receives the Jacobs Blocking Trophy. Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is the scholar-athlete of the year.
