Notre Dame women beat Penn State in top-10 showdown

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Natalie Achonwa had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 4 Notre Dame in a 77-67 victory over No. 10 Penn State on Wednesday night.

Jewell Loyd scored 17 points, Kayla McBride had 13 and Taya Reimer 12 for the Fighting Irish (7-0).

Notre Dame led by 14 points at halftime and maintained it through most of the second half as Penn State (5-2) got no closer than nine.

NO. 8 MARYLAND 67, OHIO STATE 55

In College Park, Md., Alyssa Thomas had 25 points and 12 rebounds, and Maryland (8-1) overcame a shaky first half to beat Ohio State (6-4) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

NO. 18 NORTH CAROLINA 75, NO. 15 NEBRASKA 62

In Chapel Hill, N.C., Xylina McDaniel scored a game-high 25 points to lead North Carolina (7-2) over Nebraska (6-2).

Former Washington County star Allisha Gray had 14 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists for the Tar Heels.

GEORGIA TECH 93, ILLINOIS 69

In Atlanta, Tyaunna Mar­shall had a game-high 27 points, eight rebounds and four steals as Georgia Tech (5-2) routed Illinois (5-4).

Roddreka Rogers had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN 61, MERCER 54

In Macon, Ga., Anna Claire Knight and MiMi Dubose scored 18 points each as Georgia Southern (2-6) beat Mercer (4-4).

LOUISVILLE: The school said guard Antonita Slaughter will undergo tests through today to determine what caused her to collapse during Tuesday night’s victory over Missouri State.
