S.C. State wallops Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Rich­ard Cue threw four touchdown passes and ran for 128 yards and two scores as South Carolina State pulled away from Savannah State 45-9 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (6-3, 4-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) trailed 9-7 early in the second quarter, but went on to score 38 unanswered points.

WESTERN KENTUCKY 44, GEORGIA STATE 28

In Atlanta, Keshawn Simpson ran for four touchdowns to help Western Kentucky (5-4, 2-3 Sun Belt Conference) and coach Bobby Petrino beat Georgia State (0-9, 0-4).

Petrino made his first appearance at the Georgia Dome since abruptly resigning 13 games into his only season as Atlanta Falcons coach six years ago.

COASTAL CAROLINA 50, CHARLOTTE 25

In Conway, S.C., Lorenzo Taliaferro ran for three touchdowns and Alex Ross fired a pair of touchdown passes as Coastal Carolina (9-0) beat Charlotte (4-5).

CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 27, PRESBYTERIAN 16

In Clinton, S.C., Christian Reyes ran 37 yards for a third-quarter touchdown and Mark Deboy tacked on a pair of second-half field goals to carry Charleston Southern (8-1, 2-0 Big South) past Presbyterian (3-5, 1-1).

THE CITADEL 28, SAMFORD 26

In Charleston, S.C., Darien Robinson rushed for 83 yards and three touchdowns as The Citadel (3-6, 3-4 Southern Conference) rallied to beat Samford (6-3, 4-1).

CHATTANOOGA 35, APPALACHIAN STATE 28

In Boone, N.C., Nakevion Leslie’s interception for a tie-breaking touchdown capped a rally by Chattanooga (6-2, 4-1 Southern Conference) over Appalachian State (2-7, 2-4).

MERCER 51, DAVIDSON 26

In Davidson, N.C., JeTarii Donald had 261 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns and Mercer (8-1, 4-1) rushed for 397 yards to beat Davidson (0-9, 0-6) in a Pioneer League game.
