Georgia wins practice game with "Clemson"

ATHENS, Ga. — Here’s a quick giveaway that Georgia’s 42-41 victory over “Clemson” on Wednesday night at Sanford Stadium was a practice game and not the real deal.

Tailbacks Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall combined for zero carries.

Marshall caught two passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, but Gurley, the star sophomore, was given the night off.

“We’ve seen enough of him,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “We need to see some other guys.”

Georgia fans don’t need to fret about that final score in a scrimmage that Richt called a “barn burner.”

The “Clemson” team was spotted 28 points in a scrimmage that began at halftime.

It was the starters and top reserves from Georgia against the scout-teamers simulating Clemson in the second consecutive Wednesday night scrimmage to gear up for the 8 p.m. matchup with the real Tigers on Aug. 31 in Death Valley.

The scrimmage was closed, but Richt said Georgia came back to lead 35-34 before “Clemson” went ahead by six with a couple of minutes to play.

Georgia, with starting quarterback Aaron Murray back in the game, drove about 60 yards to get the go-ahead touchdown pass from Murray to tight end Arthur Lynch.

Murray completed 11 of 14 passes for 194 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Freshman cornerbacks Brendan Langley and Shaq Wiggins each had an interception, with Wiggins returning his 17 yards for a touchdown.

Cornerback Damian Swann played a day after being listed out of practice with a hip flexor and groin strain. He had a pass breakup.

Who booted the game-winning point after touchdown?

“I can’t tell you,” Richt said. “Secret stuff.”

Richt did say this about the game: “We got done what we wanted to get done.”

GAMECOCKS KICK OFF 2014

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference announced that South Carolina will play host to Texas A&M on Aug. 28, 2014 in the first conference football game to be televised on the SEC Network.

The conference released its full 2014 league schedule on Wednesday, which includes eight games for all 14 teams. The schedule uses a 6-1-1 format that includes six games against all division opponents, one permanent non-divisional opponent and one rotating non-divisional opponent.

The SEC Network is scheduled to debut on Aug. 21, 2014 and will have one week on air to prepare for the South Carolina-Texas A&M showdown.

The league’s championship game will be played at the Georgia Dome for the 23rd consecutive year on Dec. 6, 2014.

This should be excellent material to put up in the Clemson locker room to inspire the Tigers.

Really?

Because no other schools use scout teams to simulate an upcoming opponent? The fact that this made the paper is the funny part.

Richt allowed this to make

Richt allowed this to make the paper. I assume he played it up. A big mistake. The Tigers are going to roar. Tiger Rag and the team running down the hill in Death Valley will have Georgia fans wishing they were playing Presbyterian.

Reminiscing

Kevin Butler- 60 yrds. I was watching from the East stands. Hope we don't need that this year. Our kicker appears to be a bit of a drinker.
