Former Burke County player picks Tennessee

Former Burke County football player DaVonte Lambert has committed to the University of Tennessee.

Lambert, a 2012 Bears graduate, is currently at Georgia Military College. He will finish at GMC in December and then enroll at Tennessee in January, according to a GMC release.

Lambert tweeted about his decision, saying, “I Know Everyone Been Waiting, But I Am Officially Committing To The University Of Tennessee !”

Before picking Tennessee, Lambert included Florida, Georgia and Auburn as his other finalists.

“He has great humility, a desire to get better everyday, and will not be outworked,” GMC coach Bert Williams said in the release. “We expect him to do very well.”

After winning a Class AAA state title as a star defensive lineman on the 2011 Burke County football team, Lambert won an individual state championship in the shot put his senior year.
