Brandon Gaudin, the play-by-play broadcaster for Butler University, was chosen to replace Wes Durham, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Georgia Tech is expected to make an official announcement early this week.
Selected from a pool of about 150 applicants, Gaudin has been the voice of Butler since 2010.
GEORGIA: Michael Bennett, returning from a torn ACL, is running “co-first team with a couple of guys” at receiver, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said.
Bennett was leading the team in receptions when he went down in practice the week of the South Carolina game last October. At that point was on pace to finish with 67 catches and 11 touchdowns. Tavarres King ended up leading the team with 42 and 9, respectively.
Bennett is working his way back and the coaches have like what they’ve seen.
“I haven’t seen any limitations,” Bobo said.
TEXAS A&M: ESPN says the NCAA is investigating whether quarterback Johnny Manziel was paid for signing hundreds of autographs in January.
Citing unidentified sources, ESPN’s Outside the Lines said the Heisman Trophy winner signed items in exchange for a five-figure fee during his trip to Miami for the BCS championship game.
ESPN said sources told Outside the Lines that Manziel signed photographs, footballs, mini football helmets and other items at the request of autograph broker Drew Tieman.
ESPN reported that a source said James Garland, the NCAA’s assistant director of enforcement, contacted Tieman and at least one person associated with the signings in June.
The NCAA and Texas A&M declined to comment.
LOUISIANA STATE: Jeremy Hill was not among the 103 players who reported to campus a day before the Tigers started its preseason camp. The team’s leading rusher from last season is suspended following a scuffle in a bar parking lot in April.
Tigers coach Les Miles says Hill “will not be at practice” and that the Tigers will “focus on the people who are in camp.”
Freshman defensive back Rashard Robinson also didn’t report because he is waiting to be cleared as eligible by the NCAA.
Hill has a court date regarding the status of his probation Aug. 16. Hill’s status with the team will not change until that day.
