Georgia kicker Marshall Morgan charged with boating under the influence

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia place-kicker Marshall Morgan was arrested on Saturday and charged with boating under the influence at Lake Sinclair.

Morgan, a rising sophomore, was arrested by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources rangers after a ranger in a helicopter witnessed him piloting a jet ski while towing two inner tubes.

Georgia law prohibits a lone driver from pulling crafts behind a vessel without a second person acting as a spotter, said DNR Cpt. Bob Lynn.

DNR patron boats stopped Morgan, who initially refused a blood-alcohol test, Lynn said.

Morgan, 19, then showed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking alcohol, according to the DNR’s incident report. The arrest location was listed on the DNR report as Rooty Creek.

Morgan was taken to Putnam County Jail, where he was booked at about 6:30 p.m. and released about two hours later on $1,724 bond, according to a Putnam County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

Morgan played in each of the Bulldogs’ 14 games last season, going 8-for-14 on field-goal attempts and 63-for-67 on point-after attempts, a single-season school record.

Georgia coach Mark Richt is aware of the situation, but did not offer any more details on potential punishments, according to a Georgia spokesman.

It's like Coach Spurrier says, "Play Georgia early in the year

when many of their players are on probation and suspension."

Spurrier

He is a funny guy who turns a blind eye to his own teams problems.

I'm certain Mr. Spurrier

has his share of player problems, but Mr. Richt can be counted on for "student-athlete" missteps every year.

Hey, just a good ole boy

Hey, just a good ole boy having fun on the lake. Richt is probably relieved it's not one of the OTHER kinds of trouble.

Not Right

No, its not right or safe what the young man was doing but I don't think its all that big a deal compared to other stuff that guys have done. I wonder if it will result in a suspension of any kind.
