NEW YORK — The Atlantic Coast Conference is now a 15-team league – and it might just stay that way for a while.

Commissioner John Swofford says expansion is not a topic of discussion for the ACC now, and he would “not anticipate it being in the future, but we’ll see.”

Swofford welcomed Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Notre Dame to the ACC at a news conference at the NASDAQ stock exchange in Manhattan.

Next year, Maryland leaves the ACC and Louisville joins. The Cardinals were picked to replace the Terrapins ahead of Cincinnati and Connecticut. Both of those schools lobbied to be next out of the Big East and both remain in the newly renamed American Athletic Conference.

Swofford called the new-look ACC the “strongest collection of basketball programs” ever assembled in a conference.

TEXAS A&M: Two football players were suspended Monday from team activities after being charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief.

The school said Deshazor Everett and Floyd Raven will remain suspended pending further investigation, though they can continue their studies.

College Station police say the 21-year-old Everett and the 20-year-old Raven were charged after an April 7 fight at an apartment complex. Police say two people reported being attacked by a group that included Everett and Raven. Police say they both had visible injuries from the attack, and a car was damaged.

Both players surrendered to police on Monday and posted bond.

CREIGHTON: Officially joined the Big East Conference.

The Bluejays’ membership in the reconstituted Big East began at 12:01 a.m. Monday. The move ends a membership in the Missouri Valley Conference that stretched for all or part of five decades.

Creighton joins Butler and Xavier as newcomers in the basketball-centric conference.

FCS HONORS: Gardner-Webb’s Hudson Smith, an Aiken High School graduate, was selected to The Sports Network’s Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-American Team. Smith, a long-snapper, was a second-team pick.

Georgia Southern fullback Dominique Swope was chosen to the first team. Eagles offensive lineman Garrett Frye was a second-team pick.
