NeSmith shares freshman award

South Carolina’s Matt Ne­Smith was named the South­eastern Conference’s co-Freshman of the Year.

The North Augusta resident shared the award with Arkansas’ Taylor Moore.

Augusta resident Dykes Harbin, a senior at South Carolina, made the All-SEC second team.

Alabama coach Jay Sea­well, a former Augusta State coach, was named SEC Coach of the Year.

Harbin leads the Game­cocks and ranks 16th in the conference with a stroke average of 72.73.

NeSmith ranks second on the team and 21st in the SEC with a scoring average of 73.00, which is tied for the fourth-best stroke average for a freshman in school history. He had a team-high eight top-20 finishes, including six top-10 showings.

South Carolina, which was the runner-up in the SEC Tournament, is waiting for the NCAA Regional pairings to be announced Monday.
