In Sioux Falls, S.D., Nate Wolters battled through a tight defense and finally got his chances in the second half, scoring 27 points to lead South Dakota State (25-9) past North Dakota State (24-9) in the final of the Summit League Tournament.
Wolters also had five rebounds and six assists for the Jackrabbits (25-9), who earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
Jordan Dykstra had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Jackrabbits, and Tony Fiegen had 12 points.
Taylor Braun led North Dakota State with 23 points, including two consecutive three-point plays where he aggressively sliced into the paint.
LIU BROOKLYN 91, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 70
In New York, C.J. Garner scored a career-high 31 points and LIU Brooklyn (20-13) punched its ticket for the NCAA Tournament with a victory over Mount St. Mary’s (18-14) in the finals of the Northeast Conference Tournament.
Jamal Olasewere added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Blackbirds (20-13), who became the only team to win three consecutive conference tournament titles.
After a frantic back-and-forth first half, LIU Brooklyn opened the second half with a 35-31 lead. Led by a decisive dunk by Olasewere and a three-point play from Garner, the Blackbirds went on a 13-4 run to go ahead by 13 only 6 minutes into the half.
LIU Brooklyn didn’t allow Mount St. Mary’s to pull closer than 12 the rest of the way.
Sam Prescott scored 21 points for the Mountaineers.
