Nittany Lions stun Wolverines for first Big Ten win

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Jermaine Marshall scored 25 points and Penn State upset No. 4 Michigan 84-78 on Wednesday night for its first Big Ten win of the season.

The Nittany Lions (9-18, 1-14) had lost 18 consecutive regular-season conference games dating to last season, but they roared back from a 15-point deficit with 10:39 left behind the play of Marshall.

Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 19 points for the Wolverines (23-5, 10-5).

In Coral Gables, Fla., Shane Larkin had 22 points and Miami (23-4, 14-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) defeated Virginia Tech (12-16, 3-12) despite going 11 minutes without a basket.

In Storrs, Conn., Otto Porter Jr.’s layup with 9.5 seconds remaining in the second overtime gave Georgetown (22-4, 12-3 Big East) a victory over Connecticut (19-8, 9-6).

In Rosemont, Ill., Russ Smith scored 17 points and Peyton Siva added 16 to lead Louisville (23-5, 11-4 Big East) past DePaul (11-17, 2-13).

In Fort Worth, Texas, Le’Bryan Nash had a career-high 28 points, and Oklahoma State (21-6, 11-4 Big 12) beat offensively challenged Texas Christian (10-18, 1-14).

In St. Louis, Dwayne Evans had 21 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, helping the Billikens (22-5, 11-2 Atlantic 10) beat Saint Joseph’s (15-11, 6-7).

In Pittsburgh, Tray Woodall scored 14 points and the Panthers (22-7, 10-6 Big East) beat South Florida (10-17, 1-14) to hand the struggling Bulls their 10th consecutive loss.

In Atlanta, Robert Carter Jr. had 19 points and 10 rebounds as Georgia Tech (15-12, 5-10 ACC) beat Maryland (19-9, 7-8).

Carter posted his fourth double-double of the season, and Brandon Reed had 17 points for Georgia Tech. Daniel Miller added 16 points and nine rebounds.

In Raleigh, N.C., freshman Rodney Purvis scored a season-high 21 points to lead North Carolina State (20-8, 9-6 ACC) past Boston College (12-16, 4-11).

VANDERBILT 63, GEORGIA 62

In Nashville, Tenn., Kevin Bright hit a pull-up jumper with 0.6 seconds left, and Vanderbilt (12-15, 6-9 Southeastern Conference) rallied from a 17-point deficit to edge Georgia (13-15, 7-8).

Kedren Johnson led Vanderbilt with 17 points.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 20 points and 14 rebounds for Georgia.

In Lexington, Ky., Ryan Harrow’s 19 points led Kentucky (20-8, 11-4 SEC) as every starter reached double figures, and the Wildcats dominated outmanned Mississippi State (7-20, 2-13) for their third in a row.

The Wildcats pulled within a game of first-place Florida with two games remaining.

In Baton Rouge, La., Charles Carmouche scored a season-high 26 points, and Louisiana State (17-9, 8-7 SEC) held on for a victory over Arkansas (17-11, 8-7) after nearly squandering a 22-point lead.
