Connecticut women breeze past Marquette

MILWAUKEE — Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis scored 24 points and Stefanie Dolson added 20 to help third-ranked Connecticut cruise to an 85-51 win over Marquette on Saturday.

Mosqueda-Lewis scored nine points and Dotson six during a 21-3 run to open the game for the Huskies (14-1, 2-1 Big East). Coming into the game, all the victories, save one, were by an average of 29.7 points.

“I thought the ball movement was great that first 20 minutes,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “We got the exact shot we wanted to get most every time down the floor. It’s been awhile since we’ve come out with that kind of focus when we start our games. It was great to see.”

The Huskies had 14 of their 25 assists in the first half.

Sarina Simmons scored 19 points to lead Marquette (8-7, 0-2).

In Providence, R.I., Shoni Schimmel and Bria Smith scored 17 points apiece to lead Louisville (14-3, 2-1 Big East) over Providence (5-10, 0-2).

Antonita Slaughter added 12 points and Monique Reid 11 for the Cardinals.

NO. 16 OKLAHOMA 65, TEXAS TECH 55

In Norman, Okla., Aaryn Ellenberg scored 26 points and Joanna McFarland had 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead Oklahoma (14-2, 4-0 Big 12) past Texas Tech (12-4, 2-2).

NO. 22 DAYTON 82, BUTLER 39

In Indianapolis, Amber Deane had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Dayton (13-1) routed Butler (9-7) in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both schools.

NO. 25 IOWA STATE 68, TEXAS CHRISTIAN 52

In Ames, Iowa, Chelsea Poppens had 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead Iowa State (12-2, 3-1 Big 12) past Texas Christian (7-8, 0-4).

Hallie Christofferson added 14 points for the Cyclones.
