Red-hot Kansas fends off Temple

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kevin Young had 16 points, hitting four critical free throws down the stretch, and sixth-ranked Kansas fended off pesky Temple 69-62 on Sunday for the Jayhawks’ 11th consecutive win.

Travis Releford added 14 points on 5 for 5 shooting for Kansas (12-1), and made big plays late to help put away the Owls (10-3).

NO. 2 MICHIGAN 95, IOWA 67

In Ann Arbor, Mich., Trey Burke had 19 points and a career-high 12 assists, part of another stellar offensive performance from Michigan (15-0, 2-0 Big Ten) in a win over Iowa (11-4, 0-2).

NO. 7 SYRACUSE 55, SOUTH FLORIDA 44

In Tampa, Fla., Brandon Triche had 20 points and James Southerland scored 12 of his 17 in the second half to help the Orange (14-1, 2-0) overcome a slow start and beat South Florida (9-4, 0-1) their Big East road opener.

NO. 9 MINNESOTA 69,  NORTHWESTERN 51

In Minneapolis, Austin Hollins hit five 3-pointers during an impressive three-minute stretch in the second half, finishing with 19 points and sparking Minnesota (14-1, 2-0 Big Ten) to a victory over Northwestern (9-6, 0-2) .

NO. 13 FLORIDA 79, YALE 58

In New Haven, Conn., Kenny Boynton matched his career high with 28 points on 8-for-10 shooting from 3-point range and the Gators (10-2) used a 26-3 run spanning the halves to beat the Bulldogs (5-11).
