Illini roll over eigth-ranked Buckeyes

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Brandon Paul scored 19 points and No. 11 Illinois bounced back from a tough loss in its Big Ten opener to beat No. 8 Ohio State 74-55 on Saturday.

The Illini (14-2, 1-1) led 37-25 at halftime and used a 13-2 run early in the second half to build a 50-27 lead over the Buckeyes (11-3, 1-1), who shot just 33 percent from the field and turned the ball over 16 times.

In Durham, N.C., Ryan Kelly had another big day against Wake Forest, scoring a season-high 22 points as Duke (14-0) routed the Demon Deacons (7-6) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

In Tucson, Ariz., Solomon Hill had 19 points, Mark Lyons hit two free throws with 7.2 seconds left and Arizona (14-0, 2-0 Pac-12) edged Utah (8-6, 0-2).

In Santa Clara, Calif., Kelly Olynyk made a key putback with 1:55 remaining on the way to a career-high 33 points, and Gonzaga (15-1, 2-0 West Coast Conference) held off a late rally to beat Santa Clara (12-4, 1-1).

In Columbia, Mo., Phil Pressey scored a career-high 26 points and Laurence Bowers added 16 to help Missouri (11-2) get by Bucknell (13-3).

In Piscataway, N.J., Eli Carter scored 23 points and Rutgers (10-3, 1-1 Big East) held off a second-half rally to defeat Pittsburgh (12-3, 0-2) .

In Atlanta, Rion Brown scored 22 points, and Miami’s overall size gave Georgia Tech fits as the Hurricanes (10-3) beat the Yellow Jackets (10-3) in the ACC opener for both teams.

The Yellow Jackets were outscored 26-19 in the paint while losing for the first time in nine games at McCamish Pavilion. Mfon Udofia and Kammeon Holsey led Georgia Tech with 10 points each.

In Columbia, Lakeem Jackson tied a season-high with 16 points to lead South Carolina (10-3) past South Carolina State (4-10).

In Clemson, S.C., Okaro White had 15 points as Florida State (9-5) held on to beat Clemson (8-5) to start ACC play.

Former Laney standout Rod Hall had six points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists for Clemson.
