South Carolina cruises past Jacksonville

COLUMBIA — Michael Carrera scored 17 points and Brian Richardson added a season-high 16 as South Carolina snapped a two-game losing streak with a 91-74 victory over Jacksonville on Friday night.

The Gamecocks led 57-30 at halftime behind 13 points apiece for Richardson and Carrera.

South Carolina (6-3) shot 71.9 percent (23 of 32) from the field and made 6 of 7 3-pointers for its highest scoring half in 69 games.

The lead grew to 33 points in the second half.

Bruce Ellington, who was playing in his third game since coming over from football, and Brenton Williams chipped in 12 points apiece.

Marcellous Bell led Jacksonville (4-6) with 17 points.

IOWA 80, IOWA STATE 71

In Iowa City, Iowa, Aaron White scored 18 points and Anthony Clemmons added 14 as Iowa (8-2) beat Iowa State (6-3).

Mike Gesell had 11 for the Hawkeyes.

Korie Lucious and Percy Gibson scored 14 points each to lead Iowa State.

CONNECTICUT 57, HARVARD 49

In Storrs, Conn., DeAndre Daniels scored a career-high 23 points and Connecticut (7-2) edged Harvard (4-4).

Ryan Boatright added 16 points for the Huskies who were coming off a four-point loss to No. 25 North Carolina State earlier in the week.

Wesley Saunders had 14 points for Harvard.

NO. 7 KENTUCKY 96,

DEPAUL 64

In Lexington, Ky., DeNesha Stallworth had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Kentucky (7-1) over DePaul (6-3).

Samarie Walker added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Jasmine Perry scored 16 points for DePaul (6-3).

FLORIDA 89, PACIFIC 82

In Gainesville, Fla., Jaterra Bonds scored 20 points and Jennifer George had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Florida (7-3) past Pacific (7-1).

MERCER 48,

GEORGIA SOUTHERN 44

In Statesboro, Ga., Precious Bridges scored 29 points to lead Mercer (5-3) past Georgia Southern (1-5).

MiMi Dubose had 18 points to lead the Eagles. Danielle Spencer added 12 and Anna Claire Knight had 10.
