The NCAA approved Georgia Tech’s bowl waiver on Thursday, according to ESPN and CBSSports.com, allowing the Yellow Jackets to play in a bowl game even if theyfinish 6-7.

The Yellow Jackets (6-6) will play Florida State in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday night at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.

Georgia Tech had filed a waiver after the NCAA board of directors passed a rule last summer, prohibiting bowls from picking a 6-7 team over an eligible 6-6 team.

The Georgia Tech-Florida State winner will play in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1 at Sun-Life Stadium in Miami.
