Bulldogs fall to Golden Eagles in OT

ATHENS, Ga. — Dwayne Davis’ breakaway layup with 31 seconds remaining in overtime off teammate Michael Craig’s steal gave Southern Miss a 62-60 victory over Georgia Thursday night.

Jerrold Brooks led the Golden Eagles (2-0) with 17 points, and Davis added 14.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led Georgia (1-2) with 17 points.

With just over two minutes remaining in regulation, Georgia trailed 55-50 when the shot-clock buzzer sounded erroneously, stopping play. On the inbounds play, Nemanja Djurisic hit his second 3-pointer. At 1:49, he tied the game 55-55 with a short jumper. Those were the last points of regulation.

NO. 1 INDIANA 99, SAM HOUSTON STATE 45

In Bloomington, Ind., Christian Watford scored 24 points to help Indiana (3-0) rout Sam Houston State (1-2) in the Legends Classic.

Will Sheehey scored 18 points, Victor Oladipo had 14 and Jordan Hulls 10 for the Hoosiers.

NO. 2 LOUISVILLE 80, SAMFORD 54

In Louisville, Ky., Russ Smith scored 18 points, Chane Behanan grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and added 12 points and Louisville (2-0) routed Samford (1-2) .

Behanan reached his career best in the first half with 13, outrebounding the Bulldogs (12) by himself.

NO. 6 NORTH CAROLINA STATE 72,

PENN STATE 55

In Bayamon, Puerto Rico, T.J. Warren had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead North Carolina State (2-0) over Penn State (1-1) in the opening round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

C.J. Leslie had 14 points and Rodney Purvis added 12 points for the Wolfpack.

NO. 7 KANSAS 69, CHATTANOOGA 55

In Lawrence, Kan., Ben McLemore had 25 points and eight rebounds, Elijah Johnson added 18 points and Kansas (2-1) used a big second-half charge to beat Chattanooga (1-1).

The Jayhawks got off to a sluggish start against the Mocs, and still trailed 42-30 in the opening minutes of the second half. Jeff Withey began their comeback with a basket inside, Johnson ripped a 3-pointer and McLemore slammed down the first of back-to-back dunks to trigger a 27-4 run.

NO. 16 BAYLOR 84, BOSTON COLLEGE 74

In Charleston, S.C., Pierre Jackson had a season-high 31 points, Isaiah Austin had 16 and Baylor (3-0) rallied in the second half to beat Boston College (1-1) in the Charleston Classic.

The Bears will face Colorado, the team they beat in last season’s NCAA run to the Elite Eight, on Friday for a spot in Sunday night’s championship. Jackson led the way for Baylor with six of his team’s 12 3-pointers.
