Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray has had ups and downs this season

Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, seen here against Vanderbilt, engineered his first victory over a top-10 team last week by helping the Bulldogs beat Florida.

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray finally has that signature, top-10 victory that had eluded him, but it was hardly one of his top individual showings.

The redshirt junior got pats on the back as well as questions after tying his career-high with three interceptions Saturday against Florida to continue an up-and-down stretch of games over the past month.

Still, Murray called the 17-9 win over then-No. 3 Gators “probably one of the top ones for me regardless of personal stats in the game. I play to win games and that win was probably the biggest one I’ve been a part of ever since I’ve been here.”

Murray completed 12 of 24 passes for 150 yards with a TD and the three picks.

That came a week after going 30 of 38 for a career-high 427 yards and three touchdowns in a 29-24 win at Kentucky. The game before that Murray had a career-low 109 yards in a 35-7 loss at South Carolina.

The South Carolina and Florida games were his No. 1 and 4 lowest passing efficiency ratings in the 35 games Murray has started at Georgia.

“I think it’s been two little rocky games,” Murray said of the games against teams ranked sixth and 13th in total defenses. “I’ve just got to play better at certain points.”

Tight end Arthur Lynch isn’t the least bit concerned heading into Saturday’s game against Ole Miss.

“I don’t expect this to become a trend,” Lynch said. “I expect him come out on Saturday and have a great game.”

On Georgia’s final, game-winning scoring drive vs. Florida, Murray passed on six of seven plays, including a 45-yard touchdown to Malcolm Mitchell. It was the school-record 76th of Murray’s career.

“That’s a test of a guy’s toughness at the quarterback position,” coach Mark Richt said. “Can he have some bad plays and then shake it off and go make some plays that will help you win the game at the end?”
