Florida State senior running back Chris Thompson is out for the rest of the season after injuring his left knee in the Seminoles’ win at Miami on Saturday.

It’s the second consecutive season the 5-foot-8, 187-pound speedster has suffered a season-ending injury, this one a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He suffered two broken vertebrae in the fifth game of the 2011 season and worked strenuously to get back for this season.

“A very big blow to us,” coach Jimbo Fisher said Monday. “He may be our most dynamic offensive player.”

Thompson finished the season with 687 yards rushing, averaging 7.5 yards a carry, and was the team’s third leading receiver with 21 catches for another 248 yards. He has 1,735 career yards rushing.

SEC AWARDS: Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and Louisiana State University linebacker Kevin Minter are the Southeastern Conference’s offensive and defensive players of the week.

ACC: The conference has issued one-game suspensions to North Carolina freshman linebacker Shakeel Rashad for colliding with a Duke player during a substitution, and three officials from the Duke-North Carolina and Florida State-Miami games.

In the Duke-North Carolina game, Rashad knocked down receiver Conner Vernon – who was already lined up – from behind while running in at the last moment from the sideline.

The league also suspended head linesman Tyrone Davis and side judge Angie Bartis “for failure to adhere to correct mechanics of the game and rules related to player safety.”

The Florida State-Miami officiating crew will receive letters of reprimand, while crew chief and referee David Epperley were suspended “for failure to properly administer the 10-second runoff rule” at the end of the first half of a nationally televised game.

MISSOURI: Quarterback James Franklin will likely miss his second consecutive game when the Tigers play Kentucky on Saturday.

The junior sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during the first quarter against Vanderbilt on Oct. 6.
