S.C. State posts win in overtime

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Jalen Simmons scored on a 7-yard-run in overtime to give South Carolina State a 27-20 victory over Florida A&M on Saturday night.

Simmons finished with 144 yards for the Bulldogs (3-5 overall, 2-3 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

In Boone, N.C., Eric Breitenstein had 123 of Wofford’s 393 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns.

ELON 42, WESTERN CAROLINA 31

In Elon, N.C., Thomas Wilson threw five touchdown passes and Aaron Mellette had 154 yards receiving as Elon snapped a three-game losing streak.

COASTAL CAROLINA 37, VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE 7

In Lexington, Va., Jeremy Height and a stifling defense helped Coastal Carolina dominate Virginia Military Institute.

Former Strom Thurmond star Aramis Hillary finished with 114 yards on 11 of 19 passing for Coastal Carolina, and added 58 rushing yards on 10 carries.

CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 31, PRESBYTERIAN 21

In Charleston, S.C., Teddy Allen rushed for a career-high 153 yards and four touchdowns to lead Charleston Southern.

VILLANOVA 49,GEORGIA STATE 24

In Atlanta, John Robert­son passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Villanova.

SAVANNAH STATE 42, EDWARD WATERS 35

In Savannah, Ga., Antonio Bostick passed for four touchdowns and rushed for two more as Savannah State snapped a 13-game losing streak.
