Gamecocks' Lattimore might miss Florida game

COLUMBIA — South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said that Marcus Lattimore didn’t practice Wednesday because of a bruised hip and he isn’t sure if the running back will be able to play Saturday at Florida.

“I don’t know how to list him. I’m not sure if he’s even going to be able to play,” Spurrier said.

Spurrier said that Kenny Miles and Mike Davis got all of the reps at running back Wednesday.

“There’s a good chance Kenny will end up starting the game. We’ll see how Marcus is by the weekend,” Spurrier said.

In addition to Lattimore, Jadeveon Clowney (foot) is limited.

The Gamecocks have also been slowed this week by a flu bug spreading through the squad.

“We’ve had a bunch of guys sick,” Spurrier said. “Bruce (Ellington) did not practice (Wednesday). Ace (Sanders) missed (Tuesday). (Mike) Matulis was out (Wednesday). Jimmy Legree was out. Hopefully, those guys will be back by the weekend.

Spurrier said he’ll discipline defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles for punching a player at Louisiana State last week.

Spurrier said Wednesday the discipline would probably involve missing game time. A video on YouTube shows Quarles punching LSU center P.J. Lonergan in the facemask after a first-quarter play in the Tigers’ 23-21 victory.

Quarles has started all seven games this year and has 30 tackles and 2 ½ sacks. He’s dealing with a shoulder injury and Spurrier said the sophomore defensive lineman might not be physically able to play Saturday.
