Arkansas QB Wilson cleared to return

Arkansas coach John L. Smith says quarterback Tyler Wilson has been cleared by doctors to return to action.

Wilson, last season’s first-team All-Southeastern Conference quarterback, missed the Razorbacks’ 52-0 loss to No. 1 Alabama last week. The senior was injured late in the first half against Louisiana-Monroe the week before, a game Arkansas lost in overtime.

“He is that energy, that vocal person that we need,” Smith said. “His energy and that positiveness, it just kind of breeds and it keeps going and it spirals, and that’s what we need.”

GEORGIA: While some Bulldogs have moved around on the offensive line this week, one young lineman is staying put.

True freshman John Theus has started each game for Georgia at right tackle, and according to head coach Mark Richt, that’s where he will remain, for now.

“He’s gotten so many quality reps on the right. It’s hard to throw a guy over there (at left tackle) especially as a freshman,” Richt said.

LOUISIANA STATE: Kenny Hilliard has emerged as Louisiana State University’s top running back heading into Saturday’s game against Auburn, the same team against which Hilliard had his breakout game as a freshman last season.

This time the game is in Auburn and second-ranked LSU will be without starting tailback Alfred Blue.

Hilliard is averaging a team-high 101 yards rushing and has scored two touchdowns in each of the Tigers’ first three games, making him the first LSU player in a decade to run for multiple touchdowns in three consecutive games.

N.C. STATE: Says a disassociated former football player has talked to star cornerback David Amerson, and the school is telling the secretary of state about it.

Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director Chris Kingston said in an e-mail that Amerson spoke to Eric Leak in June, but that conversation does not violate NCAA rules.

The school sent Leak a disassociation letter last year banning him from donating money to Wolfpack athletics or contacting athletes for 10 years for providing improper benefits to basketball player C.J. Leslie. Kingston says “it appears that Eric Leak is in violation of this letter.”
