Left guard Dallas Lee has a “good chance” of playing Saturday after spraining his left ankle against Florida Atlantic, but Georgia coach Mark Richt said that’s not a guarantee and if he does play, he might not start.
Georgia could start junior college transfer Mark Beard at left tackle and move Kenarious Gates to left guard.
That was the lineup on the left side of the line after Lee’s injury.
BCS POSSIBILITY: Conference commissioners are considering the possibility of adding another game to be part of the semifinal rotation for the BCS’s new college football playoff.
The postseason plan approved by university presidents in June called for the national semifinals to rotate among six bowl sites.
The years those sites do not play host to semifinals, they would be marquee bowl games, involving other highly ranked teams.
There are numerous details still be worked before the format is implemented in 2014, and now it seems like the plan might be tweaked to give teams that don’t make the playoff more chances to play in high revenue games.
PENN STATE: Acting athletic director Dave Joyner will stay on the job as long as Rodney Erickson remains the school’s president.
Erickson said in response to a question Wednesday at a Penn State student forum that Joyner was doing an excellent job at athletics.
Erickson has said he plans to step down when his contract expires in June 2014. The search for his replacement will begin in November.
It was appropriate, Erickson said, for his successor to decide whether to go in another direction with athletics.
TEXAS CHRISTIAN: Leading rusher Waymon James will miss the rest of the season for the 17th-ranked Horned Frogs because of a left knee injury.
School spokesman Mark Cohen said Wednesday that James sustained a season-ending injury. The school didn’t release further details.
ILLINOIS: Coach Tim Beckman said quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase is close to 100 percent healthy after being hobbled by an ankle sprain since the opening week of the season.
But the Illini coach didn’t name a starter for Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech (2-0). Scheelhaase sprained his ankle in the Illinois (2-1) win over Western Michigan.
