Alabama is the new No. 1 in The Associated Press poll, moving past Southern California after its resounding victory against Michigan.

The Crimson Tide also moved up to No. 1 in the USA Today coaches poll.

Alabama swayed more than enough voters with its 41-14 win Saturday night in Texas to overtake the preseason No. 1 Trojans, who beat Hawaii 49-10. Southern Cal entered that game a 40-point favorite at home.

GEORGIA: Has kept under wraps if defensive stars Bacarri Rambo and Alec Ogletree will be suspended for a second game on Saturday when the Bulldogs open Southeastern Conference play at Missouri.

Both Rambo and Ogletree again are listed as starters like they were last week when they did not play.

Coach Mark Richt acknowledged after the Buffalo win that they were suspended, but has not said if they will play this week.

• Cornerback Malcolm Mitchell (sprained left ankle) remains limited at practice.

LOUISIANA STATE: Former Louisiana State University star cornerback Tyrann Mathieu has enrolled at LSU for the fall semester, even though he cannot play for the Tigers this season and will be eligible for the 2013 NFL Draft.

Notre Dame: The school’s radio network suspended former Irish running back and commentator Allen Pinkett without pay for two more games after his comments last week that teams need bad guys to give them an edge.

Pinkett had already been pulled off last Saturday’s season opener against Navy in Ireland. He will now miss the games against Purdue and Michigan State.

Pinkett, who led Notre Dame in rushing from 1983-85, said during the interview with WSCR-AM of Chicago: “I’ve always felt like, to have a successful team, you have to have a few bad citizens on the team.” He pointed to Ohio State as an example.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick called Pinkett’s comments “nonsense.” Pinkett has apologized.
