Tyrann Mathieu plans to enroll at LSU

Tyrann Mathieu’s adoptive father says the former Louisiana State University star plans to enroll in classes at LSU, even though he cannot play football there this season.

Tyrone Mathieu told WVUE-TV in New Orleans that his son plans to enroll at the Baton Rouge campus today, the deadline for the fall semester.

The football star known as the Honey Badger has been working out personal problems with former NBA coach and player John Lucas in Houston. Lucas battled drug and alcohol problems during his career and now counsels others.

The 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist was kicked off the team at LSU on Aug. 10 for failing drug tests.

MISSOURI: Linebacker Will Ebner and guard Jack Meiners are questionable with injuries for Saturday’s game against Georgia.

Ebner has a stinger from the opening victory over Southeastern Louisiana. Coach Gary Pinkel said after the game that he hoped to get Ebner back.

Meiners, a senior, missed the opener with a knee injury. Meiners made seven starts last year.

FLORIDA: The 23rd-ranked Gators are going with Jeff Driskel as their starting quarterback.

Coach Will Muschamp said Driskel will start Saturday’s game at Texas A&M and could keep the job for the remainder of the season.

Muschamp picked Driskel over fellow sophomore Jacoby Brissett.

SEC HONORS: South Caro­lina junior tailback Marcus Lattimore was selected the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance at Vanderbilt in Week 1.

Georgia tailback Todd Gurley and Alabama tailback T.J. Yeldon were named the conference co-freshmen players of the week.
