Florida Gators' Jonathan Crawford throws no-hitter against Bethune-Cookman Wildcats

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Jonathan Crawford threw the seventh no-hitter
in NCAA Tournament history, shutting down Bethune-Cookman in a 4-0 victory in the opener of the Gainesville Regional.

Crawford, a sophomore who wasn’t even part of the Gators’ three-man weekend rotation this season, was nearly perfect and faced the minimum 27 batters.

Crawford (6-2) struck out five and walked one for the Gators’ first no-hitter since 1991. He needed just 98 pitches.

Charles Basford pitched eight shutout innings to lead the Southern Conference champs past Southeastern Conference champion Mississippi State.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE 8, SACRED HEART 2

Anthony Gomez drove in three runs to lead North Carolina State to a victory over Sacred Heart.

VANDERBILT 8, UNC WILMINGTON 2

T.J. Pecoraro allowed two runs in seven-plus innings, and Anthony Gomez had three RBI to help Vanderbilt beat North Carolina-Wilmington.

In Houston, Arkansas rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to beat Sam Houston State in the opener of the Houston Regional.

In College Station, Texas, Bobby Wahl pitched seven solid innings, and Sikes Orvis had a two-run single during Mississippi’s four-run eighth inning that lifted the Rebels.
