The Crimson Tide, coached by former Augusta State coach Jay Seawell, will take on fourth-seeded California in the semifinals today. Cal defeated No. 5 San Diego State 3-2 in the other quarterfinal.
The other semifinal today pits seventh-seeded Oregon against No. 3 Texas.
Oregon upset No. 2 UCLA 3-2 in the quarterfinals and Texas swept No. 6 Washington 5-0.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: In West Des Moines, Iowa, Mike Goodes shot 7-under-par 64 to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Principal Charity Classic.
Goodes opened the Champions Tour event with four consecutive birdies and closed with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.
Jay Haas, who won in Iowa in 2007 and 2008, leads a group at 5-under 66 that includes South African David Frost and Augusta native Larry Mize.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: In Raleigh, N.C., Scott Parel wanted to keep playing in the Rex Hospital Open. Matt Hendrix was relieved when play was suspended for the day after two weather stoppages.
The two area golfers, who opened with 67s at TPC Wakefield Plantation, are going in the different directions in the second round. Parel was 3-under through nine holes and Hendrix was 4-over through seven.
Former Michigan golfer Justin Hicks is the clubhouse leader at 10-under 132.
EUROPEAN TOUR: In Newport, Wales, Englishman Ross Fisher took a two-stroke lead at the Wales Open after shooting a 5-under-par 66 in the second round at Celtic Manor.
Overnight leader Lee Slattery, of England, could only manage 72 to remain at 4-under 138 for second.
LPGA TOUR: In Galloway Township, N.J., Stacy Lewis and Mika Miyazato are tied for the lead after the opening round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic.
Lewis and Miyazato each had an eagle on a par-5 hole and shot 6-under-par 65 at the Bay Course at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club.
Paula Creamer and Mariajo Uribe are tied for third at 4-under. Maude-Aimee Leblanc is at 3-under, while seven players are another shot back, including Lexi Thompson and Christina Kim.
Top-ranked Yani Tseng shot 71 while defending champion Brittany Lincicome finished with 72.
