Liberty women win Big South basketball title

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Devon Brown had 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Liberty pulled away late to beat High Point 81-73 on Sunday in the Big South Tournament championship game.

Avery Warley added 14 points and 12 rebounds despite prolonged foul trouble while Brown was 6 for 23 shooting. The Flames (24-8) built a 56-39 rebounding advantage and used a late 22-9 run to win their 14th league title in 16 years and return to the NCAA Tournament after a one-year absence.

Erin Reynolds scored 27 points, Shamia Brown added 23 and Cheyenne Parker had 12 rebounds for the Panthers (20-12). They had their leading rebounder and scorer foul out during a span of five seconds – and the game got away from them shortly thereafter.

COLONIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

NO. 7 DELAWARE 59, DREXEL 43

In Upper Marlboro, Md., Elena Delle Donne had 27 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 7 Delaware used a strong second half to beat Drexel 59-43 on Sunday to claim its first Colonial Athletic Asso­ciation championship.

Delle Donne, the nation’s leading scorer, finished 10 for 21 from the field and made all six of her free throws. Lauren Carra added 14 points for the Blue Hens.

HORIZON CHAMPIONSHIP

NO. 10 GREEN BAY 66, DETROIT 53

In Green Bay, Julie Woj­ta scored 29 points and Wis­consin-Green Bay (30-1) won the Horizon League Tour­nament title, beating Detroit (20-13).

Green Bay heads into the NCAA tournament on a 10-game winning streak. The Phoenix had only one regular-season loss for the second consecutive year.

MISSOURI VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIP

CREIGHTON 53, DRAKE 38

In St. Charles, Mo., Carli Tritz scored eight of her 19 points in a 14-2 finishing run as Creighton (20-12) beat Drake (18-15) in the Missouri Valley Conference Tour­na­ment final. The Bluejays prevailed in a matchup of underdogs and earned their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2002.

NORTHEAST CHAMPIONSHIP

SACRED HEART 58, MONMOUTH 48

In Fairfield, Conn., Ericka Norman scored 18 points and Sacred Heart (25-7) beat Monmouth (19-13) to win the Northeast Conference Tour­nament and clinch its second NCAA Tournament bid in the past four seasons.
