The Paine women continued to struggle at home Saturday and fell to Benedict, 60-54, at Richmond Academy.
The Lady Lions, who snapped an 11-game losing streak with an overtime win at Albany State on Thursday, couldn’t sustain their success.
Paine lost its eighth consecutive game at home. Worse, the program dropped to 4-20 (4-16 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), its fifth consecutive 20-loss season.
After suffering a 55-28 defeat at Benedict in January, the Lady Lions made it respectable this time around. Paine trailed by four in the final minute, but it couldn’t overcome 20 turnovers and a 35 percent shooting effort.
Quandra Rogers shot 6 for 15 from the field to lead the Lady Lions with 18 points. She was the lone Paine player in double figures scoring. Brittany Pevey added 14 rebounds and eight points.
Benedict improved to 16-8, 14-7 in league play. Santera Grooms posted a game-high 20 points with 10 boards to lead the Lady Tigers, while Brittany Jackson added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
