Quandra Rodgers scored a career-high 26 points, but it wasn’t enough as Paine fell to Albany State, 82-77, Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Lions (3-10, 3-6) lost for the seventh time in their past eight games. Paine shot 40 percent from the field and committed 27 turnovers.

Albany State jumped out to an early lead, a recurring theme for Paine. The Lady Lions trailed 65-52 with 7:27 remaining when coach Willie Adams called a timeout.

“You’re not doing your job,” Adams told his players. “You’ve got five fouls. Use them. You’ve got to stop giving up layups.”

His team rebounded after his speech and pulled within three, but a defensive lapse at the end killed Paine’s chances of winning. With Albany State (5-8, 5-4 SIAC) holding onto an 80-77 lead, Symone Wilkerson split two defenders and drove the left side for a routine layup with 34 seconds remaining.

Albany State overcame 33 turnovers with its 52 percent shooting performance from the field. April Thomas led the Lady Rams with 26 points.

Rodgers posted her best game in a Paine uniform. The sophomore guard shot 10 for 17 from the field, including a 4 for 8 effort from the perimeter. Rodgers added a team-high 10 rebounds.
