Boise State missed out on a chance to play in a BCS bowl this season. The Broncos will move to the Big East, giving them a chance for an automatic bid.

The conference is preparing to announce the additions of Boise State and San Diego State as football-only members and Houston, Central Florida and Southern Methodist for all sports as soon as today, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. The five schools will join in 2013.

The Big East has been trying to rebuild as a 12-school football conference since Syracuse and Pittsburgh announced they would be moving to the Atlantic Coast Conference and West Virginia announced it was leaving for the Big 12.

Texas Christian also reneged on a commitment to join the Big East and instead accepted an invite to the Big 12.

ARKANSAS: Defensive coordinator Willy Robinson resigned Tuesday, becoming the third Arkansas assistant to leave in the last two days. Former offensive coordinator Garrick McGee was named the Alabama-Birmingham head coach on Monday, the same day former special teams coach John L. Smith left to coach at Weber State.

PENN STATE: The school’s football bowl revenue this year will reach at least $2 million, $500,000 more than the amount the school promised last week would be donated to charities to raise awareness of child abuse issues.

School president Rodney Erickson said Tuesday the additional revenue will go toward helping establish a Penn State institute that would work in the treatment and prevention of child abuse.

Erickson has vowed to make Penn State a leader in raising awareness of such issues after allegations against retired assistant coach Jerry Sandusky that have tarnished the school’s image. Sandusky is due in court next week on charges of sexually abusing eight boys over a 15-year span.

Penn State typically funnels the bowl revenue back to the athletic department.
