WHO'S HOT

Alabama. The Crimson Tide are back in the Bowl Championship Series mix at No. 2 in the ratings. With a win over Auburn, Alabama will be sitting in the proverbial catbird seat. The Crimson Tide are in better shape than top-ranked Louisiana State University, which still has to play No. 3 Arkansas and possibly No. 13 Georgia (in the Southeastern Conference Championship).

WHO'S NOT

Oregon. The Southern Cal Trojans went duck hunting last week and shot down the Big Quack Attack’s national championship hopes.

THE OTHER DOUGLAS

While Aquinas junior Brendan Douglas appears to be one of the top contenders – if not THE top contender – for Georgia High School Association Class A Player of the Year, older brother, John, is having a standout season himself at Georgia Southern. The elder Douglas, a senior, was named to the Southern Conference second team. He is tied for the team lead with five sacks and also has 8.5 tackles for loss.

RANKING THE BIG FOUR

1. Georgia (9-2, 7-1 SEC). Quarterback Aaron Murray owns the third-best passing efficiency rating in school history (153.3).

2. South Carolina (9-2, 6-2 SEC). Gamecocks can post second 10-win season in school history with a win over Clemson.

3. Clemson (9-2, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference). Tigers got caught looking ahead last week.

4. Georgia Tech (8-3, 5-3 ACC). Good win over Duke, but at this point any win is a good one.

THIS WEEK'S GAMES

• Georgia at Georgia Tech, noon (ESPN)

• Clemson at South Carolina, 7:45 p.m. (ESPN)

THIS WEEK'S STORYLINES

Georgia Tech: Yellow Jackets lead the ACC in pass defense and will have to contain Georgia’s Murray.

South Carolina: Gamecocks’ pass defense, second-best in the SEC, will have to contain Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd.
