Sammy Watkins of Clemson is a Walter Camp semifinalist

Clemson freshman wide receiver Sammy Watkins is among the 15 semifinalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, it was announced Wednesday.

Watkins has 63 catches for 1,034 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is averaging 15.2 yards per grab.

GEORGIA: Tailback Richard Samuel, who underwent ankle surgery on Nov. 1, could return to play in the Southeastern Conference Championship game if the Bulldogs are in it, according to coach Mark Richt.

Richt also said offensive guard Dallas Lee, who suffered a broken leg against Florida, “has a shot at the bowl.”

ARKANSAS: Coach Bobby Petrino says running back Knile Davis will not play this weekend when the No. 6 Razorbacks play host to Mississippi State.

Petrino says Davis has been practicing for “around three weeks” but hasn’t been cleared to play. He says Davis still needs to have some “hardware” removed from his surgically repaired ankle

VANDERBILT: Suspended safety Andre Simmons indefinitely after the sophomore was charged with two felonies after allegedly trying to rob a fellow student in his dorm room.

Simmons was being held on $100,000 bond after being charged with aggravated robbery and especially aggravated burglary.

NEW MEXICO: The school has hired former Notre Dame coach Bob Davie to head up its troubled football program. Vice President of Athletics Paul Krebs announced the appointment Wednesday.

Davie hasn’t coached since being fired in 2001 by Notre Dame.
