The prevailing slogan of Mark Richt’s Georgia teams is “Finish the Drill.” The Bulldogs are forced to do just that to win the Southeastern Conference’s East division.

South Carolina’s 17-12 win over Florida on Saturday put the onus on Georgia to win its remaining two SEC games to earn a berth in the league championship. The Bulldogs answered the first challenge with a 45-7 defeat of Auburn on Saturday in Sanford Stadium.

“We just played great,” said Richt. “I’m trying to think of another game where we played this well in a situation that was so important to us. We knew South Carolina won its game, so we had to win.”

Georgia (8-2, 6-1) must extend its winning streak to nine games by beating 4-6 Kentucky next Saturday in Athens, Ga., to clinch its first division crown since 2005.

Two losses to SEC West foes Auburn and Arkansas have left South Carolina at the mercy of Georgia and dependent on Kentucky.

“We’ll see how Georgia plays when they know they have to win,” Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier said. “I told the guys, ‘I just have a feeling something good is going to happen for us.’ ”
