"Steve," Richt said, "you have a heck of a team."
With running back Marcus Lattimore leading the way, the 24th-ranked Gamecocks proved they might be ready for a "heck of a" season in their 17-6 win over the 22nd-ranked Bulldogs. Lattimore, a freshman playing his second collegiate game, shredded Georgia's defense for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Georgia simply had no answer for him, failing to slow him down and having difficulty tackling the 6-foot, 218-pound tailback.
"Marcus Lattimore was certainly the most dominating player in the game," Richt said. "I can't say I'm shocked he had a performance like this. He's a heck of a back."
South Carolina will try to improve to 3-0 when it plays host to Furman next week. Georgia will try to get back in the Southeastern Conference East Division race with a win over Arkansas next week.
For now, the Gamecocks lead the SEC. And after Spurrier finished his handshake with Richt and soaked in his words, Spurrier responded: "We may have a heck of team, but we don't know yet."
