Any Michigan man will tell you, there is nothing quite like beating Ohio State. Every Buckeye agrees, a win over that team from up North is priority No. 1.

Well, now Michigan and Ohio State could get two chances in a season to beat their fiercest rival.

What would Woody and Bo have thought of that? A rematch!

Two people familiar with the Big Ten's decision said Wednesday that the conference has decided to put Ohio State and Michigan into separate divisions, starting next season when it expands to 12 teams.

One person also says Michigan and Ohio State will continue to play each other each year in the Big Ten regular-season finale, as they have since 1943, meaning they could wind up meeting again for the conference championship a week or two later.

According to the two people, one six-team division will include Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Northwestern, while the other will have Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue and Indiana.

NORTH CAROLINA: Coach Butch Davis suspended defensive tackle Marvin Austin indefinitely on Wednesday for violating unspecified team rules.

"This decision is not a result of the ongoing NCAA review," Davis said in a brief statement issued by the school. "Marvin has violated team rules and has neglected his responsibilities to the team."

MISSISSIPPI: Coach Houston Nutt allowed himself a few hours of anguish over Tuesday's news that quarterback Jeremiah Masoli's waiver request to play immediately was denied by the NCAA.

But by Wednesday's practice, there was no more time for despair. Ready or not, Nathan Stanley 's time has arrived.

"He knows the playbook, he's got a spring under his belt and he's played in the Cotton Bowl," Nutt said. "He's going to be all right."

Stanley completed 11 of 23 passes for 163 yards, one touchdown and one interception last season.

PENN STATE: Coach Joe Paterno tabbed freshman Robert Bolden the starter for the Nittany Lions' opener Saturday against Youngstown State.

A team spokesman said this is the first time Penn State will open the season with a true freshman as the starting quarterback.
